April 9, 2020 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

Zoom Webinar Series: A Discussion about Resilience and Diversity Through Academia and Industry.

STEP Welcomes Salih Muhammad!

The  STEP Zoom Webinar Series will be a discussion about diversity and resilience through academia and the workforce. We will bring industry leaders, individuals in academia, and activists to talk to the campus about what it is like being either a minority, marginalized group, or underrepresented individual.

Raised in East Oakland, California, Muhammad strives to embody the principles of service, sacrifice, and selflessness. For much of his life, he has been committed to striving toward the liberation of Black people, at home and abroad. Muhammad believes that “Black excellence destroys white supremacy,” and strives to demonstrate this excellence daily. As a high school student Muhammad co-founded a Black Student owned/operated coffee shop. In 2009, continued pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of California, Berkeley, where he excelled as a Black student and organizer on campus.

Currently, Muhammad is the Executive Director of the Afrikan Black Coalition (ABC), a statewide Black youth organization that mobilizes Black Student Unions in 18 California campuses. ABC seeks to transform the Black condition by training a new crop of Black student leaders to organize our intellectual and economic resources. At 23 years old, he became the Principal and Director of an independent Black School and is currently a frequently touring speaker.
